Coral Reef Alliance Fundraiser
by Chris Fryer

Star Trek Fans, Divers & Environmentalists

You're invited to a fundraiser for the Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL). The fundraiser includes a screening of the new IMAX film CORAL REEF ADVENTURE. In addition, an auction benefiting CORAL will be held. The auctioneer will be William Shatner. The auction will include dive packages, dive equipment Sharks hockey tickets and more.

The fundraiser is being held on April 19th - Earth Day.

CORAL REEF ADVENTURE has a strong environmental message and the footage is incredible.

The Coral Reef Alliance is a member-supported, non-profit organization, dedicated to keeping coral reefs alive around the world. My wife, Janine Kraus, happens to be the Managing Director. CORAL does great work around the world by assisting with Marine Park creation and coral reef education.

Scientists have noted that in the past 50 years we've lost over 25% of our coral reefs worldwide. Coral reefs support incredible species diversity and have been likened to ocean bound rainforests. Coral reef species account for more than 25% of all aquatic life.

Tickets for the event will be $75. For $250, you can attend a Champagne Reception. Dive industry notables including Howard and Michelle Hall, also the makers of this IMAX film, will be attending.

If anyone is interested, I am willing to pool my $250 contribution with others to associate Alacosta's name with the event. There are a number of sponsorship levels.

The event is being held at the Tech Museum in San Jose. The Tech Museum is co-promoting the event with CORAL.

I've seen packages for two to fantastic dive locations go for less than half retail value at some CORAL auctions.

I strongly support coral and ocean conservation organizations. Hope some of you will consider joining me.
