Upcoming dives

Talk to the dive chairs early. Please sign up in advance. All people who sign up are responsible for fees at the dive. People who don't sign up for the dive may be excluded from the dive and shunned for life. On camping trips, each diver is responsible for finding its own campsites. The chair will attempt to organize campsites, but no guarantees can be made. There is a $5 per day fee for use of the club boats. Personal flotation devices should be brought for all dives using club boats.

Van Damme pre- or post-Thanksgiving dive

Carolyn Oltman's memorial

As many of you know, Carolyn Oltman, friend Kathy McIntes-Lees of Idaho, and Carolyn's beloved dog Holly, died on December 1, 2002, in a car accident on Highway 128 near the town of Yorkville, which is a short distance west of Cloverdale. They were returning from an Alacosta dive at Van Damme State Park.

Carolyn's Celebration of Life Memorial is Saturday, December 14. Friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Carolyn's home at 308 Grayson Terrace, Pleasant Hill, CA, 94523 from 4 pm to 7 pm. (A separate gathering of EBMUD friends will be held from noon to 3 p.m.). Parking space is very limited so car-pooling is encouraged; space should be available along Grayson Road or at the Rodger's-Smith Park, which is on Grayson Rd, across the street from Grayson Terrace. Individuals are invited to bring a potluck dish to share with friends and family.

Map of Carolyn's home

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Carolyn's name to the National Organization of Women, Battered Women's Alternative, the Nature Conservancy or a charity of your choice.

After the memorial, Alacostans will travel to our annual holiday party, which is being held a short distance away. The party will continue as previously scheduled; this will be a chance for Alacostans to talk about Carolyn and share memories and happy times gone by.

Holiday party

Alacosta is holding its annual holiday party. All Alacosta members are invited to attend. Unfortunately, this year's party follows a tragic accident which killed one of our long-time members, Carolyn Oltman, who was on her way back from a club dive. The party is immediately following her memorial service. However, we have decided to proceed with the party regardless, and while it may turn into a bit of a follow-up memorial service, we hope and plan to keep it festive for all, whether or not they knew Carolyn. Carolyn always added laughter to our holiday gatherings with her smile, love of life and sharp wit, so we want to have some fun in her memory

This years Holiday party will be held at Michael and Diane Daily's home.
