Pt. Lobos, October 7

Rob Vedovi, Simon Kisch, and Kevin Dalley attempted to dive Pt. Lobos on Sunday, October 7. Unfortunately, Simon's BC blew a gasket before he entered the boat. Simon doesn't carry a spare regulator; this is the only piece of equipment of which he does not carry a spare. Rob and Kevin reach the pinnacles in Blue Fish Cove. Alacosta's new depth finder was briefly tested. The anchor was dropped in 100 feet, near a pinnacle which rose to about 40 feet below the surface. Near the anchor, the visibility was low, but the visibility rose to 40 feet near the pinnacle. The sun's light lit up the pinnacles. There were many Corynactis (strawberry anemones), barnacles, nudibranches. and more. Sheepshead appeared nearby.

The second dive was also to the pinnacles. Kevin's regulators blew a gasket before the dive. He borrowed one of Simon's many spare regulators. The sun was behind the clouds on this dive; the dive wasn't quite as pretty. The top of the second pinnacle was about 60 feet.

Pt. Lobos, October 28

John Beland and Kevin Dalley visited Pt. Lobos on Sunday, October 28. They kicked out to the entrance to Whaler's Cove. Hundreds of salps, mostly dying, were visible in the top 10-20 feet of the cove. There were also many small jellies. There were many benthic creatures as well. John discovered a large number of shrimps hidden in cracks. Of course, there were a smattering of nudibranches, cadlinas, sea lemons, and ringed nudibranches.
