ba_diving loses subscriber list, changes location

ba_diving crashed a disk and lost its list of subscribers. You may need to resubscribe if you haven't posted recently.

Unfortunately, this site requires personal information personal information in order to register, gender, date of birth, country, and zip code. The mailing list includes advertising unless they are paid $60/year. There are better choices than this one for creating a mailing list.

Chuck Tribolet explains the issue and the solution:

The ba_diving list is an e-mail list for discussing Northern California ("Bay Area") diving. It was running on a list server at best.com. Best.com was bought by verio.com. The list server at best had a hard dive crash and there was no backup (DUH). That meant there was no more list server, and even the list of subscribers was lost.

To fill the void, I created a new group, ba_diving@egroups.com. Egroups is a free listserver, run by Yahoo, with a decent user interface. For now, we have to put up with a little advertising, but we can make that go away for $60/year. We are taking up a collection, and have pledges for $40 the first night, so the advertising will be gone shortly.

I was able to send e-mails about this directly to everyone who had posted this year (I'm a pack rat and had saved all the posts), but we have no way of contacting the lurkers (those who read and don't post) directly. So if you are a lurker, you need to sign up again. Just go to http://www.egroups.com/group/ba_diving.
