As we reported in the previous Blurb, 82 species of North American fish are in danger of extinction. This article is now available online. This problem is reported in an article in Fisheries, a peer-reviewed scientific journal published by the American Fisheries Society. Twelve species of Sebastes are vulnerable, as are lingcod and basking sharks. Great white sharks are conservation dependent. Four types of sturgeon, including green and white sturgeon are also in trouble.
Most of the endangered fish are slow-growing and slow to reach sexual maturity.
