Quickie breakwater dive

On Sunday, July 30, John Beland and Kevin Dalley snuck away to Breakwater for a dive. Most of the time was spent over sand. Kevin discovered 4 octopuses, one of them about thumb size. Another octopus was busy carrying a bivalve. The octopus was so busy carrying the bivalve that it didn't blend in for quite a while.

There were a large number of crabs which had escaped from Muscle Beach, with very long claws held perpendicular to the small, triangular carapace, much wider than it is long. They may have been Heterocrypta occidentalis.
