Old dives

Pt. Lobos on New Years

On Friday, January 1, 1999, Alacosta dove at Pt. Lobos. Susan Carter chaired this dive from home.

Rob Vermeulen and John Beland claimed that the second dive was much warmer than the first dive. The visibility was 25-30 foot, about the same as the temperature. Gary Schleimer says that the sand was active during the dive. Gary may have celebrated New Year's a little too hard.

Hopkins Reef dive

Gary Schleimer led a dive to a location near Hopkins Reef in Monterey on Sunday, January 17. Gary Schleimer and Kevin Dalley arrived well before 9. John Beland and Tom Whitaker arrive even earlier and spent over an hour wandering around Monterey looking for breakfast.

By 11:30, the Alacosta boat was inflated and the crew was on its way to the dive site. The boat was anchored between two dive boats. The Alacosta divers found the sandy bottom between the dive boats. An occasional hermit crab littered the bottom. The divers also found a few small rocks with anemones. One large rock was found covered with Metridium.
